EU-India Trade Deal Could Slash EV Tariffs on 315,000 Vehicles a Year

The European Commission has released tariff schedules tied to its proposed free trade agreement with India, and the numbers point to a significant shift for electric vehicle trade between the two markets. Under the published terms, duties could be removed on as many as 315,000 EVs exchanged annually once the deal takes effect.

Rather than opening the floodgates immediately, the arrangement would phase in the combined annual quota over time, allowing both sides to adjust as volumes ramp up. That staged approach matters for automakers in Europe and India alike, since tariff relief on this scale would reshape the economics of cross-border EV sales.
