EST-Floattech Powers 15 New River Cruise Ships with Octopus High Energy Batteries

Dutch maritime battery maker EST-Floattech has secured a deal to equip 15 new river cruise vessels with its Octopus High Energy battery systems. The contract comes through Van Tiem Elektro, a system integrator based in the Netherlands. Each ship will receive 650 kWh of battery capacity, bringing the total order to 9.7 MWh. According to EST-Floattech, this ranks among its biggest river cruise contracts to date.

River cruise operators are increasingly turning to battery-electric propulsion as stricter emissions rules take hold in European waterways. The Octopus High Energy platform is designed specifically for marine use, and this order signals the company’s growing presence in the inland cruising market.
