Denza Takes Z9GT to Hong Kong, Bringing BYD's Flash Charging Along

Denza has planted its flagship grand tourer in Hong Kong. The Z9GT went on sale there on October 23, 2026, and it arrives as the first luxury model in the city to carry BYD’s flash charging hardware and the second-generation Blade Battery.

The list price is HK$998,000 (about $127,240). That’s a steep number, and it puts the Hong Kong car at roughly 2.3 times what the equivalent e3 flash-charging Z9GT costs on the mainland, where it starts at 369,800 yuan ($55,060).

Key Specs: 850 kW (1,140 hp) peak output · 0–100 km/h in 2.7 seconds · 1,000-volt platform · second-gen Blade Battery · From HK$998,000

BYD vice president Liu Xueliang, who runs the company’s Asia-Pacific auto sales division, led the launch. Around 250 guests and journalists were taken out to a dedicated offshore platform for the event — a fitting bit of theatre for a car Denza bills as its technology and performance flagship.

The charging claim, unpacked

Denza’s marketing line is punchy: “ready in 5 minutes, fully charged in 9 minutes.” The company has previously clarified what those figures mean in mainland communications — 10% to 70% in five minutes, and 10% to 97% in nine.

Those are lab-style figures tied to the right charger, so real-world results will depend on infrastructure. Hong Kong’s rollout of high-power stations is the piece to watch here.

What the Z9GT actually is

Strip away the launch glitz and the hardware is substantial:

  • Tri-motor e3 layout: BYD’s e3 system allows independent rear-wheel steering, which helps a car of this size turn and place itself in tight spaces.
  • 1,000-volt architecture: The high-voltage platform underpins the fast-charging claims and is shared with the mainland’s e3 flash-charging variant.
  • Performance: 850 kW and a 2.7-second sprint make it one of the quicker four-door GTs on sale anywhere.

Denza first updated the Z9GT on the mainland on March 5 this year, making it the first production model delivered with the second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging. A second e3 variant followed on September 9 at 329,800 yuan.

Hong Kong as a springboard

The city carries symbolic weight for Denza. It was the brand’s first overseas market, entered in June 2024 with the D9 MPV leading the charge.

Since then the Z9GT has spread to Europe, Malaysia and Thailand, with a Paris launch event in April and Thai sales starting September 16. At that Bangkok event, Liu said Denza had already reached 13 Asia-Pacific markets and that BYD would keep pushing flash charging globally.

For Hong Kong buyers, the appeal is less about beating mainland pricing and more about getting the newest BYD tech first. The premium is the cost of early access — and of a badge that still has to earn its recognition in a market long dominated by European marques.
