Chinese Auto Chipmaker SemiDrive Raises New Capital as Shipments Top 14 Million Units

SemiDrive, a Chinese company focused on automotive-grade semiconductors, has closed a new round of financing. The announcement coincides with a shipment milestone that underscores how quickly domestic chip suppliers are scaling inside the world’s largest car market.

The company says its cumulative automotive chip shipments have now passed 14 million units, and that its products have been designed into vehicles from more than 90% of Chinese automakers. That reach matters at a moment when electric and software-defined vehicles lean on ever-larger numbers of computing and control chips.

SemiDrive has not disclosed the size of the funding round or the identities of its backers. Even so, the update points to continued investor appetite for Chinese automotive semiconductor firms aiming to serve both electrified and intelligent vehicle platforms.

The broader significance is straightforward: as Chinese OEMs push forward with EVs and advanced driver-assistance systems, a domestic chip supply base becomes a strategic asset rather than a nice-to-have. SemiDrive’s numbers suggest it has already moved well past the early-adoption stage.
