CATL Unveils Tectrans II Battery, Pushing Electric Trucks Toward 1,000 km

CATL has introduced the Tectrans II, a battery pack aimed squarely at commercial vehicles, and the company says the heavy-duty truck version can cover as much as 1,000 km on a single charge. That figure would place battery-electric haulage much closer to the daily distances diesel trucks routinely manage.

The heavy-duty variant also supports megawatt-level fast charging, according to CATL, allowing the pack to climb to 80 percent state of charge in about 25 minutes. Combining long range with rapid replenishment is central to making electric trucks viable on long-haul routes, where downtime directly affects operating costs.

Tectrans II arrives as China’s commercial vehicle segment accelerates its shift away from diesel, with battery makers competing to offer packs that can withstand heavy loads and high utilization. CATL has not yet detailed pricing or which truck manufacturers will adopt the pack first.
