CATL and Egypt's BME Team Up for Heavy-Duty Battery Plant

China’s CATL and Egyptian battery maker BME have agreed to build a battery production facility in Egypt, starting with an annual capacity of 1 GWh. The initial output is aimed at energy storage systems for heavy commercial vehicles.

The partners intend to scale the plant over time, with plans to eventually reach 5 GWh of annual capacity. The project marks another step in CATL’s international expansion and points to growing interest in electrifying freight and other heavy transport in the region.
