Camel Group's 12V Sodium-Ion Battery Wins Spot in European OEM Pre-Development Program

Camel Group has announced that its 12-volt sodium-ion battery has been chosen to take part in a pre-development project with a European automaker. The selection places the Chinese battery maker inside an early-stage engineering program, where component choices are still being evaluated rather than locked in for series production.

The move reflects a broader push by battery suppliers to bring sodium-ion chemistry into the low-voltage side of the vehicle, where lead-acid units have long dominated. Sodium-ion cells are typically seen as a cost-conscious alternative to lithium-based designs, and 12V applications are a natural testing ground before any wider deployment.

For now, the project remains a pre-development effort, meaning no volume supply commitment or production timeline has been disclosed. Even so, an automaker-backed evaluation gives Camel Group a chance to prove the technology’s durability and packaging fit in real vehicle architectures.
