BYD Unveils Atto 8: A Seven-Seat Electric SUV with 400+ Miles of Range

BYD has pulled back the curtain on its new European flagship, the Atto 8, a seven-seat electric SUV that arrives with the brand’s second-generation Blade Battery and its rapid Flash Charging technology. Making its debut at the Paris Auto Show, the vehicle represents a significant step for the company in the European market, where it is positioned above the existing Ti 7 plug-in hybrid.
The Atto 8 is built on a large footprint, measuring 5,040 mm in length and 1,996 mm in width, placing it squarely in the full-size electric SUV segment alongside models like the Kia EV9 and Hyundai IONIQ 9. It will be offered in two all-electric configurations. The entry-level Design RWD variant uses a single rear motor producing 456 horsepower, enabling a 0 to 62 mph sprint in eight seconds. The more powerful Excellence AWD model adds a front motor for a combined 764 horsepower and a 0-62 mph time of just 4.6 seconds.
Both versions draw power from a substantial 115 kWh Blade 2.0 battery pack. The rear-wheel-drive model delivers a WLTP range of up to 405 miles, which BYD notes is enough to cover the distance from London to Edinburgh on a single charge. The all-wheel-drive version offers a still-robust 374 miles of range. However, the headline feature is the Flash Charging system, which BYD claims can replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in only five minutes. A full charge from 10% to 97% is said to take just nine minutes, and the system is designed to work even in temperatures as low as -30°C, where a 20% to 97% charge takes twelve minutes.
Inside, the cabin is designed for comfort and practicality. A large 2.39m2 panoramic glass roof lets in natural light, while the front and middle-row seats offer heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Leather upholstery comes as standard. Technology includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 26-inch head-up display, and a 15.6-inch central touchscreen with Google Built-in. The Design RWD model gets a 10-speaker audio system, while the Excellence AWD upgrades to a 21-speaker DiSound setup and adds a front refrigerator. Cargo space stands at 270 liters with all three rows in use, expanding to 1,960 liters with the second and third rows folded, plus a 136-liter front trunk.
European dealers are expected to begin selling the Atto 8 in the first quarter of 2027. Official pricing has not been revealed, but given its position above the Ti 7—which starts at around £47,995—the Atto 8 is likely to command a premium. For context, the current seven-seat electric Tang is listed in Germany from around €75,000.
