BYD's Denza N8 EV Targets 1,000 km of Range Ahead of October 26 Debut

BYD is closing in on the launch of its biggest pure-electric people-hauler yet. The Denza N8 EV — the battery-powered version of a luxury SUV that first arrived in China back in 2023 as a plug-in hybrid — is expected to make its official debut on October 26, and the numbers attached to it are hard to ignore.

Denza is billing the five-seat model as “the king of large 5-seater pure electric vehicles,” and on paper the claim has some backing. Under China’s CLTC test cycle, the company quotes a range of 1,003 km (roughly 623 miles).

Key Specs: 130.15 kWh Blade Battery 2.0 · 1,003 km CLTC range (~623 mi) · up to 890 kW (1,193 hp) tri-motor AWD · 5,150 mm long, 3,075 mm wheelbase

What’s Under the Skin

The battery pack is a hefty 130.15 kWh unit using BYD’s second-generation Blade cells. The N8 EV also gets the company’s Flash Charging hardware, which BYD says can take compatible cars from 10% to 70% in about five minutes and on to 97% in around nine — though the 1,500 kW figure behind those times needs to be treated with the usual caveat: it is a best-case, hardware-dependent claim.

Buyers will have two powertrain routes. The rear-drive model uses a single motor available in either 320 kW (429 hp) or 370 kW (496 hp) form. The tri-motor AWD version, built on BYD’s e3 platform, pairs a 270 kW front unit with two 310 kW rear motors for a combined 890 kW (1,193 hp).

Dimensions come from an August filing with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: 5,150 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, 1,820 mm tall, with a 3,075 mm wheelbase. That makes it a genuinely large vehicle, and the cabin reflects it.

Screens Everywhere

The dashboard is dominated by a 30-inch central display that stretches almost to the passenger side, and a 43-inch (1.1-metre) panoramic head-up display sits below the windshield. Ambient lighting, a three-spoke wheel and upgraded materials round out a minimalist, premium-feeling interior.

Spy shots published in China ahead of the launch show the SUV out in public without camouflage, complete with a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor.

A Family Affair

The N8 EV isn’t arriving alone. Last month BYD added the Denza N8L EV, a slightly longer six-seat variant, priced from 299,800 yuan (about $45,000) for the Premium and 329,800 yuan ($49,000) for the Flagship. Both run the same 130.15 kWh Blade Battery 2.0, quote up to 596 miles (960 km) of CLTC range, and offer a 208-litre front trunk.

Those CLTC numbers flatter real-world performance, as they always do, so expect the N8’s headline range to shrink once it’s measured under stricter cycles. Even so, a five-seat luxury SUV with four-digit range and megawatt-class charging ambitions is a statement of intent from BYD — and the full picture lands next week.
