BYD Recalls Over 183,000 Older Tang and Qin Vehicles Over Brake Pedal Defect

BYD is issuing a recall covering 183,211 older Tang and Qin models because of a defect in the brake pedal stopper. According to the notice, the component can crack and come loose, which may cause the brake lights to stay illuminated even when the driver is not pressing the pedal.

The affected vehicles are earlier-production units of the Tang and Qin lines, two of the automaker’s longest-running nameplates. A brake light that remains on without driver input can mislead nearby motorists about the vehicle’s intentions on the road.

BYD has not indicated that the issue involves any loss of braking performance itself; the concern centers on the stopper and the false brake-light signal it can trigger. Owners of the recalled vehicles are expected to have the part inspected and replaced at no cost.

The recall affects a relatively contained batch of older vehicles rather than current production, and it is the kind of component-level fix that service centers can complete quickly once parts are available.
