BYD Opens Its Third Southeast Asian Auto Plant in West Java, Indonesia

BYD has officially started production at a new vehicle manufacturing facility in Indonesia, marking another step in the Chinese automaker’s regional expansion. The plant is situated within the Subang Smartpolitan Industrial Park in West Java, a designated industrial zone aimed at attracting high-tech manufacturing investment.

This Indonesian site becomes BYD’s third automobile factory in Southeast Asia. The company previously launched operations in Thailand in 2024, followed by a plant in Cambodia in 2025, steadily building out a local production footprint across the region.

Local assembly in Indonesia is expected to help BYD better serve one of Southeast Asia’s largest automotive markets while navigating import duties and regional trade dynamics. The move also reflects a broader trend of Chinese EV makers establishing overseas manufacturing bases to strengthen their competitive position.
