BYD Launches ETT 44 Electric Truck in Europe with 651 kWh Battery

BYD is making its first move into Europe’s heavy-duty electric truck segment with the ETT 44, a 44-tonne tractor unit. The vehicle carries a 651 kWh battery pack, which the manufacturer says delivers a range of nearly 600 kilometres — a figure that would put it among the longer-legged electric trucks available on the continent.

Charging is another headline point: BYD claims the ETT 44 can accept power at over 1.5 MW, a level that would allow fleet operators to cut downtime significantly compared with today’s more common high-power charging setups. Such speeds would depend on the availability of megawatt-class infrastructure, which is still being built out across Europe.

With this model, BYD extends its commercial vehicle ambitions beyond its established presence in electric buses and passenger cars. The company is positioning the ETT 44 as a direct contender in a market where European manufacturers have been rolling out their own battery-electric long-haul trucks.
