BYD Keeps Grip on China's NEV Market as Tesla Climbs Back Into August Top 10

China’s new energy vehicle sector saw familiar names at the top in August, with BYD holding a commanding 23.3 percent share of the market, according to data tracked by CnEVPost. The figure underscores the automaker’s continued dominance even as competition intensifies across the world’s largest EV market.
Tesla made its way back into the top 10 during the month, landing in sixth place with a 5.0 percent share. The return highlights the cyclical nature of Tesla’s China performance, which often swings based on export timing and local delivery waves.
Leapmotor held onto third place, and among the ten largest players it recorded the fastest year-on-year growth. The result points to the rising influence of domestic challengers that are steadily carving out space alongside established leaders.
