BYD Confirms Solid-State Battery Will Power a Vehicle Next Year

An executive at BYD has confirmed that the automaker intends to install solid-state battery technology in a vehicle as early as next year. The announcement marks one of the most concrete timelines yet for a major manufacturer bringing this long-promised technology to market.

Solid-state batteries replace the liquid electrolyte used in conventional lithium-ion cells with a solid material. The change is widely expected to improve energy density, safety, and charging speed — three areas where today’s EV batteries still face trade-offs.

BYD has built its reputation on vertically integrated production and its own battery arm, so the move fits a pattern of the company pushing in-house technical solutions.
