Audi's New Strategy: One Global Brand, Region-Specific Cars

Audi is shifting its product approach to combine its worldwide brand identity with vehicles tailored to local markets. According to CEO Gernot Döllner, the company plans to offer cars that feel genuinely suited to the regions where they are sold, rather than relying on a single global formula. This marks a change from the longstanding practice of pushing largely uniform models across all markets.
The strategy carries significant weight for Audi’s electric vehicle lineup. Different regions have distinct expectations around range, charging infrastructure, digital features, and vehicle size. By tuning EVs to local preferences, Audi aims to stay competitive against both established premium rivals and fast-growing regional EV makers, while preserving the consistency that defines its global brand.
Executing this vision will require flexibility across platforms, software, and manufacturing. It also raises questions about how much differentiation is possible without fragmenting the brand or driving up costs. Audi’s leadership believes the balance can be struck, and the company’s next generation of models will serve as the first real test of whether local relevance and global identity can coexist.
