AM2SoftMag Project 3D-Prints Metallic Glass Motor Parts for Electric Vehicles

A European research initiative called AM2SoftMag is exploring how additive manufacturing can produce electric motor components from metallic glass, an alloy with a disordered atomic structure instead of a regular crystal lattice. The project, funded by the EU and coordinated by Saarland University, has used laser-based 3D printing to create these parts. Metallic glass is known for its soft magnetic properties, which could improve motor efficiency. Over the four-year effort, the team aims to develop new manufacturing methods for soft magnetic materials used in electric drivetrains.
