ADI and Cadence Team Up on SHARC-FX DSP for In-Car AI Audio

Analog Devices and Cadence have co-developed a new digital signal processor called SHARC-FX, aimed squarely at the growing demands of automotive audio systems that now lean on artificial intelligence. According to the two companies, the chip delivers roughly five times the performance of conventional DSP silicon, a jump they say is necessary because in-cabin sound workloads are expanding faster than standard processors can keep up.

Modern vehicles are no longer satisfied with simple playback. Automakers are layering in active noise cancellation, spatial audio, voice assistants and AI-driven sound zones, all of which demand heavy real-time computation. Traditional DSPs, designed for simpler audio pipelines, are increasingly strained by these tasks. ADI and Cadence position SHARC-FX as a purpose-built answer to that gap.

The collaboration combines ADI’s signal-processing expertise with Cadence’s design capabilities, reflecting a broader trend of chipmakers and IP vendors partnering to meet automotive-grade requirements. The companies have not disclosed pricing or a production timeline, but the five-fold performance claim signals how seriously the industry is treating audio as a compute-intensive domain rather than a simple hardware feature.
