ACC Celebrates Five Million Battery Cells Produced at French Plant

The Automotive Cells Company (ACC), a joint venture between Stellantis, Mercedes-Benz, and TotalEnergies, has reached a significant production milestone: its factory in France has manufactured five million battery cells. This achievement highlights the ramp-up of Europe’s battery manufacturing capabilities and the collaboration between major automakers and energy companies.

The ACC facility, located in Douvrin, France, is part of a broader effort to establish a robust European battery supply chain. The plant’s second production block, which will add 12.9 GWh of capacity, is scheduled to begin operations in 2027. This expansion is expected to support the growing demand for electric vehicles from Stellantis and Mercedes-Benz, among others.

ACC’s progress underscores the increasing localization of battery production in Europe, reducing reliance on Asian suppliers and aligning with EU goals for a greener, more self-sufficient automotive industry. The joint venture’s success could serve as a model for other similar initiatives, such as those planned by other European automakers and battery startups.

While the announcement did not specify which cell types or chemistries are being produced, the milestone reflects steady advancement in manufacturing. As ACC continues to scale up, it will play a key role in the region’s transition to electric mobility, providing a critical component for EVs sold in Europe and beyond.
