Yusen Terminals Commits $200M to Electrify Port of LA Operations

The Port of Los Angeles has extended its partnership with Yusen Terminals, one of its longest-serving marine terminal operators, by approving a 30-year lease that runs through 2056. The agreement clears the path for a major investment in zero-emission infrastructure at the busy Southern California hub.
Yusen Terminals plans to spend $200 million on electrifying its cargo-handling fleet, a move that aligns with the port’s aggressive clean-air goals. The funding will support the transition away from diesel-powered equipment, which has long been a significant source of emissions at ports.
While specific details about the types of equipment and the timeline for deployment were not disclosed, the investment underscores a growing trend among logistics operators to meet stricter environmental regulations and reduce their carbon footprint. For the local community, this translates into cleaner air and a quieter, more sustainable port.
