Xiaomi's Sky Nomad Hits 70,000 Locked-In Orders, Powering Its EREV Ambitions

Xiaomi Auto has witnessed a promising start to its foray into the extended-range EV segment. Within the first month of the Sky Nomad lineup’s market debut, the company collected over 70,000 locked-in orders. This figure covers the initial 30-day window from September 7 to October 7 and signals a robust initial appetite for the brand’s new direction. Notably, these locked-in orders represent firm customer commitments and are separate from actual vehicle deliveries.

The Sky Nomad range, which includes the five-seat N70 Pro and N70 Max, the seven-seat N90 Max, and the camping-focused N90 Max Studio, officially went on sale on September 7. With a starting price of 209,900 yuan (approximately $31,160), the lineup marks Xiaomi’s first step beyond pure battery-electric vehicles, as its previous catalog featured only the SU7 sedan and YU7 SUV. The new series is designed to appeal to family buyers, offering extended-range powertrains and varying seating configurations to widen its customer base.

Early delivery numbers indicate the lineup is already making an impact. Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun confirmed that Sky Nomad deliveries exceeded 10,000 units in September alone. This contributed to Xiaomi Auto’s overall September deliveries surpassing 40,000 vehicles, the company’s highest monthly volume so far in 2026, up from 30,153 in August. Despite this momentum, Xiaomi still faces the challenge of accelerating output to reach its annual target of 550,000 vehicles. Based on the disclosed lower bound of 40,000 for September, the company has delivered at least 286,475 vehicles in the first nine months, roughly 52.1% of its full-year goal.

Xiaomi’s entry into the EREV market comes at a time when the segment is facing headwinds. According to data from the China Passenger Car Association, retail sales of extended-range EVs in China dropped 15.85% year-on-year to 616,000 units in the first eight months of 2026. Nevertheless, Xiaomi’s strong order book suggests that its blend of range flexibility and family-oriented features is finding an audience, even as the broader market contracts. The company has indicated it will continue to share initial and first-month order figures for future launches, keeping investors and enthusiasts informed about demand trends.
