Xiaomi's Second EV Brand to Use New Battery Suppliers, Targets EREV Market

Xiaomi’s automotive unit is reportedly gearing up for its second brand, which will focus on extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs). According to a recent report, the company has selected Sunwoda and CALB as battery suppliers for the debut model under this new sub-brand, named Skynomad.

This move signals a strategic shift for Xiaomi, which has so far relied on its initial EV lineup. By partnering with additional suppliers, the company aims to diversify its supply chain and potentially reduce costs as it ventures into the growing EREV segment. EREVs combine an electric motor with a small internal combustion engine that acts as a generator, offering extended driving range.

Details on the Skynomad brand and its first vehicle are still scarce, but the choice of battery partners suggests Xiaomi is moving quickly to establish a presence in the competitive Chinese auto market.
