Windrose Unveils iPad-Sized Electric PTO Delivering 70 kW for Electric Semi Trucks

Electric semi truck manufacturer Windrose has introduced a compact electric power take-off (PTO) unit capable of producing up to 70 kW of power without any diesel consumption. The device is roughly the size of an iPad, marking a significant departure from conventional PTO systems that rely on the truck’s diesel engine to drive auxiliary equipment.

Traditional PTOs are mechanical systems that tap into the vehicle’s drivetrain or engine to power attachments like hydraulic pumps, refrigeration units, or cranes. By going fully electric, Windrose’s solution eliminates the need for diesel fuel in these auxiliary operations, which can represent a meaningful portion of a truck’s overall energy use.

According to the company, this electric PTO could provide a substantial competitive edge for its battery-electric semi trucks. The compact form factor and high power output make it adaptable to a range of vocational applications where diesel-powered PTOs have long been the standard.
