Wevo's New Polyurethane Potting Compound Shields Battery Management PCBs

Wevo has introduced a polyurethane-based potting material designed specifically for protecting multilayer circuit boards in automotive battery management systems (BMS). The compound, named WEVOPUR 60210 FL T, is intended for selective potting using the dam-and-fill technique, a method that allows precise application without overcoating sensitive components.

The formulation is engineered for boards that monitor and control high-voltage systems up to 800 V in electric vehicles. Beyond the core monitoring tasks, the potting also safeguards diagnostic, communication, and safety functions, which are critical for reliable EV operation. By encapsulating these PCBs, the material offers mechanical support and insulation against environmental stress.

This development reflects a growing focus on enhancing the longevity and robustness of BMS electronics, especially as EVs adopt higher voltage architectures. The selectability of the process helps manufacturers protect only necessary areas, balancing protection with cost and thermal performance.

Wevo’s solution underscores the importance of materials innovation in supporting the transition to more electrified transport, addressing the need for durable and effective encapsulation in demanding automotive environments.
