Waymo Expands Transit-Linked Ride Credit to More Cities, but Only for Visa Cardholders

Waymo is widening a perk that rewards riders for combining its robotaxi service with public transportation. Under the program, passengers who connect a Waymo trip to a transit leg can claim a $2.85 credit back on their fare.

The offer builds on a pilot that Waymo had previously run in two cities, and it is now being rolled out more broadly. There is a catch, though: the credit is currently limited to riders paying with a Visa card, leaving other payment methods out for the time being.

The move signals how autonomous ride-hailing operators are positioning themselves alongside existing bus and rail networks rather than purely competing with them. By nudging riders toward multi-modal journeys, Waymo can present its service as a complement to public transit — and capture trips that begin or end beyond a train or bus stop.
