Mercedes-Benz Taps Wayve to Bring End-to-End AI Driving to Production Cars

Mercedes-Benz has locked in a production agreement with UK-based self-driving developer Wayve, paving the way for the startup’s “AI Driver” system to reach customer vehicles. Under the plan, integration work begins within the next two years, making this the first time Wayve’s end-to-end driving AI lands in a premium-segment production car.

The partnership builds on an existing financial tie. Mercedes had already backed Wayve, contributing to the startup’s $1.5 billion Series D funding round earlier this year. This new deal pushes the relationship from investment into engineering execution, with a defined production timeline attached.

Wayve’s approach differs from more conventional autonomy stacks: rather than relying on hand-coded rules, its end-to-end AI learns driving behavior from data. Together with Mercedes’ manufacturing and validation resources, the arrangement signals a notable step toward putting learned driving intelligence into vehicles customers can actually buy.
