VinFast Drives Into North America's Electric Bus Arena After Brussels Debut

VinFast’s first serious push into the global electric bus business took center stage at Busworld Europe 2025, where the Vietnamese company showed off two battery-electric models — the EB 8 and the EB 12 — in Brussels in October 2025. The appearance marked VinFast’s initial major international step in a segment it had previously kept largely domestic, and it signaled that the automaker is now looking well beyond Vietnam for new customers.
The two buses on display represent a deliberate range strategy. The EB 8 is the smaller of the pair, aimed at routes where maneuverability and lower passenger capacity matter, while the EB 12 is the full-size city bus that forms the backbone of most urban transit fleets. By bringing both to a European industry gathering, VinFast put itself in front of transit operators and fleet buyers who are actively shopping for zero-emission replacements.
North America is the next frontier on that roadmap. The company’s decision to pursue the US market follows a pattern already visible in its passenger-car ambitions, and it opens a new competitive front against established electric bus manufacturers that already serve American cities. Success there will depend on far more than the vehicles themselves — local service networks, parts availability, charging integration and compliance with US transit requirements all shape whether a new entrant can win contracts.
For VinFast, the bus business is also a way to broaden its identity beyond consumer EVs. Transit orders tend to be large, long-term and publicly funded, which can provide steadier volume than the retail market. If the Brussels showing converts into fleet deals, it would give the automaker a second pillar in electrified transport and a foothold in regions where its cars are still building recognition.
The Brussels event was an introduction, not a finished sales story. What happens next — pilot programs, operator trials and eventual orders — will determine whether VinFast’s electric buses become a familiar sight on US streets or remain a promising debut that never scaled.
