Vimag Labs Patents Rare-Earth-Free Electric Motor Platform

Vimag Labs has secured a patent for an electric motor platform that does not rely on rare earth materials. The company’s solution is aimed at removing a key supply-chain dependency that has long shaped the economics of electric drivetrains, where magnets built from rare earth elements are a standard ingredient.

The patent covers the architecture of the motor platform itself. By designing around rare earth magnets, Vimag Labs is positioning its technology as an alternative for manufacturers looking to reduce exposure to scarce and geopolitically concentrated raw materials.

Details on production timelines, manufacturing partners or which vehicle segments the platform will serve have not been disclosed. The patent award, however, marks a step forward for efforts to broaden the pool of motor technologies available to the EV industry.
