During a recent trip through the Philippine islands, our writer and his wife relied on small gasoline-powered motorbikes to get around, just as many travelers and locals do. This daily routine stood in sharp contrast to their usual electric motorcycles back home, offering a firsthand look at the practical differences between the two.

Small gas bikes are cheap, widely available, and easy to refuel, but they come with noise, exhaust fumes, and the constant hum of an engine. Electric motorcycles, by comparison, deliver instant torque, near-silent operation, and lower running costs, though charging infrastructure and range can still be limiting in some regions.
