Toyota's Affordable Chinese-Built Electric SUV Caught Testing in Right-Hand Drive

Toyota’s budget-friendly electric SUV, the bZ3X, has been photographed testing in a right-hand drive configuration outside China. The vehicle, which carries a price tag of roughly $15,000 in its home market, is the top-selling EV to come out of a Chinese joint venture, and the overseas sighting points to a broader global rollout.

The bZ3X is produced through Toyota’s partnership with a Chinese automaker and has found strong demand thanks to its combination of a low entry price and practical SUV packaging. Until now, availability has been limited to China, but the right-hand drive prototype suggests Toyota is preparing the model for markets such as Japan, the UK, Australia, and other regions that drive on the left.

The move would mark another step in Toyota’s evolving electric strategy, which has leaned on joint-venture production in China to keep costs down. If the bZ3X does reach global showrooms, it could become one of the most affordable electric SUVs on sale and intensify competition in the entry-level EV segment.

No official launch date or pricing for overseas markets has been announced. The images of the right-hand drive test vehicle are the clearest indication yet that Toyota intends to take the model beyond China.
