The Automotive Events That Will Shape 2027: From CES to the Detroit Auto Show

The automotive world is preparing for a packed calendar of industry gatherings in 2027, with major conferences and auto shows set to spotlight the technologies that are reshaping how vehicles are built, sold and driven. According to WardsAuto, next year’s events will continue to focus on emerging technology trends — including new hybrid powertrains, vehicle connectivity, software-defined platforms, artificial intelligence and digital retail tools.
The past year has been a difficult one for automakers, marked by persistent cost pressures, regulatory uncertainty and surging gasoline prices that once again shifted consumer preferences. Yet adapting to changing market conditions is something the industry has done successfully for decades. In response, manufacturers have redirected significant portions of their vehicle development efforts toward hybrids rather than purely electric vehicles, while simultaneously pushing ahead with software-defined vehicles capable of receiving over-the-air updates and deploying AI across both their products and their operations.
The 2027 calendar kicks off with CES 2027 in Las Vegas from January 6 to 9, one of the largest technology conferences of the year. In recent years, CES has increasingly explored how consumer electronics, software and connectivity are merging with automotive technology. The 2027 edition will concentrate on artificial intelligence, vehicle technology and advanced mobility, with keynote speakers including Waymo Co-CEO Tekendra Mawakana, Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa and Lenovo Chairman and CEO Yuanqing Yang.
Shortly after, the Detroit Auto Show returns to its traditional winter schedule for its 120th year, taking place January 14–24 at Huntington Place. The 2026 show featured 41 OEM brands, up from 34 the previous year, and the event has evolved from a traditional media-focused vehicle reveal into a more family-friendly experience that includes indoor test track rides. It traditionally opens with the North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year awards, recognizing excellence in innovation, technology, design, safety and performance. Later in January, the Washington D.C. Auto Show runs January 22–31 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, offering ride-and-drives from brands such as Toyota, Chevrolet, Kia, Tesla and Lucid. The event is distinctive for its public policy focus, preceded by a Public Policy Preview Day that brings together members of Congress, government officials and automotive executives.
The Chicago Auto Show follows from February 13–21 at McCormick Place, marking its 119th edition since first being held in 1901 — making it older than any other U.S. expo, according to organizers. It will display hundreds of vehicles from dozens of global OEMs, with both indoor and outdoor interactive test tracks. The NADA Show 2027 lands in Orlando from February 17–20, gathering the dealership community to explore AI-powered sales tools, digital retailing, fixed operations, financing and omnichannel customer service. The New York International Auto Show then runs March 26–April 4 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, hosting the Automotive Forum, World Car Awards and MediaPost’s Automotive Marketing Conference, with over 100 global jurors voting across categories like World Car Design, World Luxury Car, World Performance Car, World Urban Car and World Electric Vehicle.
Rounding out the schedule are Finished Vehicle Logistics North America 2027 from April 13–15 in Huntington Beach, which is expected to draw more than 500 senior leaders from OEMs, logistics providers, ports, rail and trucking to discuss supply chain resilience amid tariff uncertainty. AutoTech 2027 takes place June 21–23 at the Vibe Credit Union Showplace in Novi, Michigan, featuring panels on connected mobility, software-defined vehicle UI and UX, advanced driver assist systems and autonomous driving, with the 2027 theme centered on monetization. WardsAuto notes the list will be updated in January and June as further dates and details emerge.
