Tesla Taps Volex to Build NACS Charging Couplers

Tesla has brought another supplier into its North American Charging Standard (NACS) ecosystem, naming Volex as a manufacturer of NACS couplers. The move signals that Tesla is scaling up production capacity for the connector at the heart of its charging strategy, which is steadily becoming the dominant plug design in North America.

Volex, an established player in power and connectivity products, will produce the couplers that let vehicles and charging equipment interface through the NACS design. Adding a dedicated manufacturing partner matters as more automakers commit to the standard and more public charging hardware is built around it.

Standardizing on a single connector type simplifies life for drivers, who no longer need to juggle multiple adapters between networks. Suppliers like Volex take on a growing share of the component work, freeing Tesla to focus on the broader charging network and vehicle side of the equation.
