Tesla Sets Cybercab Launch Event for September 3 in Austin

Tesla has officially announced the launch event for its Cybercab, scheduled for September 3 in Austin, Texas. The company is promoting the event with a poster that reads ‘Exclusive Access: Cybercab,’ indicating an invite-only gathering. Invitations will be extended to the top participants in Tesla’s Robotaxi rider sweepstakes, while the general public can tune in via a livestream that Tesla says will be available for everyone else.

The event comes after more than a year of Tesla operating its driverless service in Austin, which currently includes a fleet of about two dozen vehicles without safety drivers, according to tracking. The Cybercab marks a significant addition to that service: a two-seat vehicle with no steering wheel, representing a departure from traditional car design and a step toward a more autonomous future.

While Tesla frames the event as a major milestone, the actual launch is more of an expansion of its existing robotaxi operations.
