Tesla Secures FCC Green Light for Cybercab Wireless Charging

Tesla has received approval from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission for the wireless charging hardware destined for its Cybercab robotaxi. The regulatory clearance marks another step toward deploying the purpose-built autonomous vehicle, which the company has said will rely on inductive charging rather than a plug.

The FCC authorization covers the equipment that would enable over-the-air power transfer between the vehicle and a charging pad. Wireless charging is seen as a practical fit for robotaxis, since no human driver needs to handle a cable between trips. Tesla has not disclosed a firm timeline for when the system will reach public roads, and details such as power output and pad design remain under wraps.

The approval arrives as Tesla continues to develop its autonomous driving software and robotaxi service plans. Rivals in the robotaxi space have also explored automated charging solutions, but inductive systems remain rare in production vehicles.
