Tesla's Robotaxi Service Draws More Criticism as Riders Report Long Waits and Wrong Drop-offs

Tesla’s new ‘Robotaxi’ service in Texas is under fire once again, this time from some of its most loyal supporters. A self-proclaimed Tesla Ambassador recently shared his experience, revealing that a short 2.3-mile ride came with a shocking 66-minute estimated wait time, ultimately leading him to abandon the idea and call an Uber instead. The ambassador’s frustration highlights a growing pattern of dissatisfaction among early adopters.
Another long-time Tesla owner, who has purchased four vehicles from the company, has reported a series of issues with the autonomous ride-hailing service. These include missed pickups and drop-offs that left him several blocks—and in some cases, miles—away from his intended destination. Such experiences are raising concerns about the reliability and readiness of Tesla’s autonomous driving technology for public use.
Despite the criticism, Tesla continues to expand its Robotaxi operations in Texas, positioning the service as a key part of its future mobility strategy. However, as these stories emerge, questions linger about whether the service is truly ready for prime time or if these are just growing pains for a system still in its early stages.
