Tesla's FSD Supervised Update Can Step In to Prevent Collisions During Manual Driving

Tesla’s AI team announced early Friday that a new build of Full Self-Driving (Supervised), version 14.3.9, is being deployed to vehicles. The headline addition is an active safety layer that lets the system intervene in a crash scenario even when the human driver is fully in control of the car.

What makes this update stand out is that it goes beyond the passive driver-assistance features Tesla owners already know. Rather than waiting for the driver to activate FSD, the software can now temporarily assume steering and braking authority on its own if it detects an imminent impact, functioning as a last-resort backstop.

The rollout reflects Tesla’s broader effort to treat its driver-assist stack as both a convenience tool and a safety net. It is a notable shift in framing, since Full Self-Driving has generally been pitched as something the driver chooses to engage, not as an automated guardian that acts without being summoned.
