Tesla Opens Shareholder Q&A for Its Most Consequential Earnings Call Yet

Tesla has flipped the switch on its shareholder question portal ahead of the third-quarter 2026 earnings call, and the agenda is already crowded. Investors have until 4:00 p.m. EDT on October 20 to submit and upvote questions through the Say platform, with management set to face them on Wednesday, October 21. Results land after the closing bell, followed by a webcast at 4:30 p.m. CT.
There’s a twist in how Say works: votes are weighted by the number of shares behind them. That means institutions carry more clout than the retail crowd, though retail has historically used the format to push operational topics onto the docket.
Ahead of the second-quarter call, individual investors wanted to know why Robotaxi expansion had hit a wall, when Cybercab would finally carry paying passengers, and how the Optimus Gen 3 production ramp was shaping up. One institutional holder took a different angle, asking how Tesla and SpaceX would divide responsibilities around Terafab.
At least one of those questions has aged. Tesla confirmed last week that more than 300 Cybercabs are now operating in Austin — an eightfold increase in just 30 days — with Dallas tapped as the next market. So the conversation is likely to shift from “when” to “how fast.”
A Regulatory Cloud Hangs Over the Call
NHTSA has demanded sworn responses on how the pedal-free Cybercab was certified against federal safety standards. Those answers are due October 30 — nine days after the earnings call. Whether an analyst brings it up live is anyone’s guess, but this is exactly the kind of issue that tends to surface during Q&A.
The Numbers Take a Back Seat
Tesla already disclosed 486,532 deliveries and 13.7 GWh of energy storage for the quarter. Consensus estimates from Zacks point to earnings of roughly 43 to 45 cents per share on about $27.8 billion in revenue, a rebound attempt after a Q2 that missed on EPS. But Goldman Sachs, which maintains a Neutral rating and a $360 price target, argues that the stock will react more to what management says about Robotaxi, FSD and Optimus than to the quarterly figures themselves.
Timing adds another layer. The call comes six days after Tesla’s rescheduled Roadster event, streamed on X on Thursday, October 15 at 7:55 p.m. CT. Should the Roadster appear with a production timeline or a SpaceX thruster package, expect that topic to shoot up the voting list before the deadline.
For now, the big unknowns remain: how quickly the robotaxi network scales, what regulators will say about the Cybercab, and whether Optimus is any closer to volume production. The call won’t answer everything — but it’s the closest look investors will get this quarter.
