Terra Charge to Roll Out 2,500 NACS Charging Stations in Japan by 2033

Indian electric vehicle charging operator Terra Charge is set to bring the North American Charging Standard (NACS) to Japan in a big way. Starting in 2028, the company will begin deploying NACS-compatible chargers across the country, with a goal of establishing 2,500 charging points by 2033. This move marks a significant step for NACS adoption outside its home market, as Japan has traditionally relied on CHAdeMO and CCS standards.

Beyond fast charging, Terra Charge is also venturing into NACS-based AC charging for the first time. This dual approach aims to cater to a wide range of EV users, from those needing quick top-ups on highways to everyday drivers charging overnight at home or work. The expansion is expected to boost Japan’s EV infrastructure, making it easier for drivers to find compatible stations as NACS gains global traction.

With this rollout, Terra Charge positions itself as a key player in Japan’s evolving charging landscape, potentially influencing other operators to follow suit.
