SUN Mobility Rolls Out Battery-Swap Network in Kenya

SUN Mobility has officially launched its battery-swapping service in Africa, starting with 35 stations across Kenya. These stations are designed to support electric two- and three-wheelers from over ten different manufacturers, making it easier for riders to switch depleted batteries for fully charged ones in seconds, eliminating long charging waits.

The company is partnering with Vivo Energy, a major player in African fuel distribution, to leverage existing infrastructure and expand into other African markets. This move is part of a broader strategy to promote e-mobility in emerging economies where two-wheelers are a primary mode of transport and where charging infrastructure remains limited.

By focusing on battery swapping, SUN Mobility aims to address range anxiety and high upfront costs, as customers can purchase or lease vehicles without a battery. The Kenyan launch is seen as a pilot to demonstrate viability, with plans for wider deployment across the continent if successful.
