Spiro Raises $18M Debt to Expand E-Motorcycle Fleets in Uganda and Rwanda

Spiro, a Nairobi-headquartered operator of electric motorcycles, has secured $18 million in fresh debt financing. The capital is earmarked for growing its e-motorcycle fleets and its battery-swapping network in Uganda and Rwanda.

The move underscores the company’s push to widen its footprint across East Africa, where battery swapping is positioned as a practical alternative to traditional charging for two-wheeled vehicles. By scaling both its vehicles and its swap infrastructure together, Spiro aims to make electric mobility more viable for everyday riders.

The financing comes as the micromobility segment in the region continues to draw interest from investors looking to back cleaner transport options.
