London Extends E-Scooter Rental Trial as National Rules Stay Unsettled

London’s rental e-scooter programme has entered a third phase, with operators Voi and Lime set to keep running the service across the capital for another two years. The extension keeps the trial alive even though the UK has yet to introduce nationwide legislation covering the devices.

That legal gap leaves rental e-scooters in a familiar position: permitted under trial conditions in a number of British cities, yet still without the permanent regulatory framework that would let the wider market develop with certainty. For operators, the two-year window offers some continuity in one of Europe’s largest micromobility markets.
