SkyDrive Plans to Turn Osaka Rooftops into eVTOL Landing Hubs

SkyDrive has unveiled a plan to repurpose rooftop emergency landing sites across Osaka City into vertiports designed for electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The concept centers on giving the Japanese metropolis a ready-made network of landing points by adapting infrastructure that already exists on top of its buildings.

Rather than constructing entirely new facilities from the ground up, the approach leans on sites originally set aside for emergency helicopter operations. By reworking these locations, SkyDrive aims to support the practical rollout of eVTOL flights over dense urban areas where ground space is scarce.

Osaka has been positioning itself as a focal point for next-generation air mobility in Japan, and the conversion of rooftop sites could serve as a template for other crowded cities. The company has not disclosed a timeline or specific locations for the vertiport conversions.
