San Francisco Lets Residents Decide Where Curbside EV Chargers Get Installed

San Francisco is handing neighborhood residents a direct say in the rollout of curbside EV charging. A new citywide program sets up a formal process for charging companies to place public plugs along residential streets, rather than leaving siting decisions entirely to city planners or the companies themselves.

The initiative matters because curbside charging is often the missing link for drivers who live in apartments or homes without a private garage. By letting locals weigh in on where the hardware goes, the city aims to put chargers where demand actually exists and reduce friction over parking spaces and street furniture.
