Range Rover Electric Finally Arrives: Order Books Open for JLR's First EV

After nearly six decades of combustion-powered luxury, Range Rover has officially stepped into the electric era. JLR has opened the order books for the production model of the Range Rover Electric, a milestone SUV that marks the brand’s first-ever vehicle without an internal combustion engine. With this launch, the iconic nameplate finally joins the premium EV race it helped popularize in the SUV segment.

Mechanically, the electric Range Rover promises serious numbers. The flagship version delivers a combined system output of 405 kW and supports ultra-fast charging at up to 350 kW, enabling a substantial range of approximately 600 kilometers on a single charge. JLR has yet to release full performance details, but earlier teasers hinted at off-road capability and towing strengths comparable to its V8-powered siblings.

The SUV also introduces a dedicated ‘Energy Storage and Management’ system designed to maximize battery health and efficiency over long ownership periods. Deliveries are expected to begin in select markets by late 2026, with pricing announced closer to launch. The order book opening marks the definitive transition of a traditionally conservative, combustion-first brand into a future-facing, electrified lineup.

Range Rover Electric will compete directly with the growing pack of luxury electric SUVs, including the BMW iX, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, and upcoming Cadillac Escalade IQ. JLR executives say this launch is part of a broader shift: by 2030, the company aims to offer pure-electric versions across all its brands. This first EV, therefore, carries significant strategic weight.
