Port of Los Angeles Secures $200M for Zero-Emission Terminal Equipment

The Port of Los Angeles has finalized a long-term lease agreement with Yusen Terminals, extending through 2056 and unlocking a substantial $200 million investment focused on zero-emission cargo-handling technology. The 30-year commitment underscores the port’s dedication to sustainable operations while ensuring long-term operational stability for the marine terminal operator.

This investment is expected to accelerate the deployment of electric and hydrogen-powered equipment across the terminal, including cranes, yard trucks, and other essential machinery. By replacing diesel-powered units, the port aims to significantly reduce local emissions and contribute to California’s ambitious clean air targets.

Port officials highlighted that this partnership reflects a broader industry trend toward decarbonization, where long-term leasing agreements provide the financial certainty needed for large-scale clean-technology upgrades. Yusen Terminals will work closely with port authorities and equipment manufacturers to phase in the new machinery over the coming years, promising a more sustainable future for one of the nation’s busiest ports.
