Nxu Leaves CharIN to Test Its Own Megawatt Charging System

Nxu has announced its withdrawal from CharIN, the industry consortium behind the Combined Charging System (CCS), and is now testing a proprietary megawatt-level charging system. The company shared that its system is designed to deliver significantly higher power outputs than current standards allow.

The departure from CharIN suggests Nxu is pivoting toward a closed, vertically integrated approach to high-power charging rather than aligning with the broader CCS ecosystem. Testing of the megawatt system is already underway, though further technical details and timelines remain undisclosed.

This move comes as the EV industry increasingly focuses on megawatt charging for heavy-duty vehicles, where faster turnaround times are critical. Nxu’s decision to go it alone could either accelerate its niche or isolate it from the mainstream infrastructure push.
