Musk Signals Another Rebrand for His AI Arm as Trump Pushes 'Super Intelligence' Language

Elon Musk appears ready to rename his artificial intelligence division yet again, this time folding federal terminology into the SpaceX brand. In a series of early Sunday posts on X, Musk wrote “No more AI,” followed by “SI” and “It’s better,” before declaring that SpaceX is a super intelligence company. When one user asked whether the SpaceXAI name would become SpaceXSI, Musk answered plainly: “Yes, we will make that change.”
The shift traces back to Washington. On September 29, President Donald Trump signed an executive order instructing federal agencies to swap “artificial intelligence” and “AI” for “Super Intelligence” and “SI” across government websites, policy papers and press releases. Musk was present for the signing and for a voluntary safety accord endorsed that same day by the heads of the largest AI firms. Addressing reporters afterward, he caught himself mid-sentence, saying he wanted to emphasize the benefits of A.I. before correcting himself to S.I.
If it happens, SpaceXSI would be the third identity for the business in a matter of months. SpaceX closed its acquisition of xAI on February 2 in a transaction that valued the combined entity at $1.25 trillion. Musk said in May that xAI would be wound down as a standalone company, and by July 6 the unit had taken the SpaceXAI name along with a fresh logo that nested the old xAI lettering inside the SpaceX mark.
The reach of such a change goes far past a single chatbot. SpaceXAI currently oversees Grok, the X platform, the Colossus training clusters in Memphis and Cursor, the coding tool SpaceX picked up in August. It also carries the orbital compute program SpaceX is assembling around Nvidia hardware, which Musk told investors during the company’s first earnings call would be Nvidia-exclusive.
Musk offered no timetable and left several questions unanswered. He did not specify whether the move would be a legal name change or a branding refresh, whether the @SpaceXAI handle on X would follow suit, or how it would affect products such as Grok, and no formal company announcement had been issued as of Sunday morning. Whether peers like Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Meta and Nvidia will adopt similar language remains unclear; OpenAI’s Sam Altman continues to say “AI” in public, while Nvidia’s Jensen Huang has moved partway by describing data centers as super intelligence factories. The rename would also align SpaceX’s AI branding with federal vocabulary at a moment when Musk is taking on a new advisory role at the Pentagon, where he is helping steer the Project Meridian study on the future of warfare.
