MG IM6 First Drive: 751 hp, Air Suspension, and a €60,990 Price Tag

MG’s newest electric flagship, the IM6 SUV, has landed on European roads, and it brings serious hardware for the money. Sharing its underpinnings with the IM5 saloon, the SUV packs a 96.5 kWh NMC battery, an 800-volt electrical architecture, rear-wheel steering, and a pair of powertrain options. Buyers can pick a single-motor rear-drive version rated at 300 kW (407 hp) for €56,990, or step up to the dual-motor all-wheel-drive model producing 553 kW (751 hp) for €60,990.
What separates the IM6 from its saloon sibling is an optional Drive Pack priced at €2,000. Available only on the AWD variant, it adds adaptive air suspension, adjustable damping, and 21-inch wheels — a combination the IM5 cannot offer. The trade-off is measurable: WLTP range on the AWD drops from 545 km to 505 km with the pack fitted, and combined consumption climbs from 21.7 to 23.4 kWh/100 km. The taller SUV body already costs some efficiency versus the saloon, with a drag coefficient of 0.259 against the IM5’s 0.237.
On the move, the air suspension makes a clear difference. In its default setting the IM6 feels firmer and sportier than its 2.4-tonne kerb weight suggests, keeping body roll in check while staying composed over rough tarmac. Drivers can soften the dampers and lower the ride height for highway cruising, or firm things up for back-road work — and the gap between the two modes is easy to feel.
Charging is a strong point: the 800-volt setup allows DC rates of up to 396 kW, taking the battery from 10 to 80 percent in a claimed 17 minutes. AC charging runs at 11 kW three-phase, good for a full charge in roughly 10.5 hours. With 665 litres of boot space, a 32-litre front trunk, and a 1,500 kg braked towing rating, the IM6 positions itself as a practical flagship rather than a pure performance statement.
