Mercedes-Benz Pulls the Plug on the EQE Sedan

Mercedes-Benz has decided to end production of the EQE sedan, marking the close of a chapter for one of its electric four-doors. The model, which sat between the smaller EQA/EQB offerings and the flagship EQS, struggled to find its footing in a crowded EV market.

When it arrived, the EQE was pitched as an electric counterpart to the familiar E-Class, sharing the brand’s luxury approach but with a battery-electric powertrain. Despite the engineering effort behind it, buyers often gravitated toward either the more affordable electric models or the larger, more prestigious EQS. That left the EQE in a narrow middle ground.

The decision reflects a broader recalibration at Mercedes-Benz as it juggles EV demand, hybrid interest, and its traditional combustion lineup. The company is now focusing on models that better align with what customers are actually choosing, rather than filling every niche with a dedicated electric variant.

For those who admired the EQE’s blend of range and refinement, its departure signals how quickly the electric landscape is shifting. Mercedes-Benz has not indicated a direct replacement, suggesting the nameplate may be retired for the foreseeable future.
