KGM's Torres EVX Joins UK Electric Car Grant Scheme

KGM, the South Korean automaker formerly known as SsangYong, has announced that its Torres EVX electric SUV is now eligible for the UK government’s Electric Car Grant. The grant provides £1,500 towards the purchase of an eligible electric vehicle, and the Torres EVX joins a growing list of models that qualify.
The Torres EVX is a mid-size electric SUV that offers a competitive range and practical interior space. Its addition to the grant scheme could make it more attractive to UK buyers, especially as the government continues to encourage the adoption of zero-emission vehicles. The grant is part of the UK’s broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions from transport and support the transition to electric mobility.
In addition to the Torres EVX, KGM’s Musso EV pickup is already eligible for the Plug-in Van Grant, which offers up to £5,000 towards the purchase of eligible electric vans. This means that KGM now has two models that benefit from UK government purchase incentives, potentially boosting the brand’s presence in the UK market.
The UK’s electric car grant scheme has been a key driver of EV adoption, although it has undergone changes in recent years. The current iteration focuses on supporting more affordable electric vehicles, and the inclusion of the Torres EVX suggests that it meets the criteria for price and range. KGM’s move to offer more electric options aligns with the global trend of automakers expanding their EV lineups to meet stricter emissions regulations.
For consumers, the grant can significantly reduce the upfront cost of purchasing an electric vehicle. With the Torres EVX now qualifying, it becomes a more compelling option in the competitive electric SUV segment. KGM hopes that this will translate into increased sales and a stronger foothold in the UK’s evolving automotive landscape.
