Hugger Orange 1969 Camaro Z/28 Hits the Block After Rotisserie Restoration

A restored 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 is drawing attention on the Hemmings marketplace, with bidding already at $75,000 as the auction enters its closing stretch. Since the 2023 rotisserie restoration wrapped up, the car has barely been driven, which helps explain its still-fresh appearance.

Hugger Orange is arguably the most recognizable shade ever worn by the Z/28, and this example carries it with crisp white stripes, tidy panel gaps and bright Rally wheels. The interior was redone in Code 727 Ivory vinyl and keeps its performance-era character: a console with the Sports Gauge Package, a wood-rimmed wheel and, as original, no radio.

The drivetrain is period-correct rather than numbers-matching. Under the hood sits a DZ-code 302ci V8 paired with an M21 four-speed manual and a 12-bolt 3.31 Posi rear end. That V8 has covered only 55 miles since a rebuild that included blueprinting and balancing, and Chevrolet’s original 290hp rating for the high-winding small-block is widely believed to have been conservative.

Chevrolet built the Z/28 to chase Ford in the Trans Am series, and 1969 turned out to be its strongest sales year at 20,302 units. Purists may knock the missing original engine, but the presentation and the effort to bring the car back to factory form make this a compelling turnkey classic.
